    The Fragrance

The Japanese umbrella known as Wagasa 和 伞 is highly regarded for its exquisite beauty and expert craftsmanship. Made from bamboo and Washi paper, this traditional parasol has a long and distinguished history. In the past, people relied on straw hats and coats to shield themselves from the rain, but the introduction of folding umbrellas around 1550 brought about a new era of luxury. As time went on, Wagasa became more readily available and began to serve not only as a practical tool for rain and sun protection, but also as a stylish accessory. This can be seen in the numerous Ukiyo-e prints depicting women adorned in kimonos and accompanied by their elegant Wagasa parasols. The popularity of Wagasa in Japanese culture is so immense that it has even inspired its own mythical creature known as the Karakasa Obake, or the Umbrella Ghost. This spirit takes the form of a closed Wagasa with a single eye and a foot adorned with a traditional wooden sandal known as geta. - During their time on Earth, particularly in Japan, the Artganians were captivated by the exquisite Wagasa parasols. They collected numerous parasols as precious keepsakes to bring home. These parasols are utilized to forecast the future by interpreting the luminosity that emanates when they are unfolded. Only a select few members of the wagasaii temples are deemed worthy of this privilege.

    The Brand

In the beginning is a perfume house based in France and founded by Philippe Constantin in 2013. From the outset, all the perfumes it offers are made with an emphasis on craftsmanship, originality and quality.

A few years later, he decided to create MAISON INCENS in honour of his father and the manuscript he bequeathed to his son: a compilation of leather paintings and scented stories. Philippe's creations are the olfactory signature of his father's book.

The collections he creates are inspired by an unknown civilisation called ARTGANIS, whose communication codes are based on fragrances and whose life is governed by smells.

    The Perfumer

The name Jean-Claude Gigodot may not be familiar to perfume lovers, as he is not one of those perfumers who get a lot of media coverage. Throughout his life, this creator of numerous niche fragrances was a discreet man who enjoyed great respect from his peers. In this article, we sketch the portrait of a perfumer in love with his craft, a leading figure in niche perfumery to whom we owe some of L'Artisan Parfumeur's major creations.
