Her name doesn't appear on the bottles, but it hovers over every note. Nejla Barbir is one of those designers we recognize without even naming. Her compositions, both audacious and refined, sculpt a perfumery of character, rooted in tradition but resolutely looking to the future. A career path combining rigor and intuition

Born in Tunisia in 1962, Nejla Barbir left her native land at the age of 18 for Paris, where she initially set her sights on scientific research. With a doctorate in chemistry, she could have built a brilliant career in the pharmaceutical industry. But perfume irresistibly attracted her. It would become her field of expression.

She joined Flora Synth in 1987, working alongside Jean-Louis Sieuzac and Dominique Ropion, her first teachers. After Flora Synth was taken over by Harman & Reimer (now Symrise), she held the position of senior perfumer until 1999.

She then opted for independence, a path punctuated by collaborations with some of the greatest houses - Givenchy, Estée Lauder, Christian Dior. It was backstage at Christian Dior, in fact, that she took part in the development of a major olfactory turning point: "Dune".

Since 2002, she has run her own company, PARFUMANIA, based in Paris, specializing in the creation of high-quality fragrance compositions, using the latest technologies and respecting industry standards.

The art of composing moving fragrances

What sets Nejla Barbir apart? A deeply constructed olfactory style. Each of her fragrances is born of a dialogue between noble raw materials - Turkish rose, Egyptian jasmine, saffron, oud, musk - and neoclassical architecture. Solid structures, designed to evolve slowly on the skin, in a balance of controlled forces.

But for her, technique never takes precedence over emotion. She speaks ofimmersive sensory experiences, of perfumes as life companions. She seeks impetus, thrill and attachment.
