Maiada El Khalifa is a confirmed non-conformist, with an exploratory spirit and an atypical background to say the least. She has worked as a financial specialist in the energy industry, as a CEO in the technology industry and as managing director of her own consultancy firm.

For her, though, it would seem that all roads lead to perfume.

Born in Sudan, she has lived in several countries, including the UK, the United Arab Emirates and France. She is a cosmopolitan person who has travelled the world, exchanging and learning from different cultures and people.

On the other side of this angle are her passions, art (she is an artist) and perfumery. Maiada writes of her philosophy: ‘The world tells us to conform. I say, be who you are, do what you love. It may sound crazy or different, but it's up to us. It's what really makes us who we are, and interesting to others. That's why we create fragrances that say that.’

As far as she can remember, Maiada has always worn her own homemade blend of a secret Sudanese perfume formula fused with notes from Parisian and global perfumes. Her friends always asked her: ‘What is this perfume and where can I find it? Could you make me one? Maiada responded by undergoing intensive olfactory training in Grasse and Paris, followed by practice in a Paris laboratory, and Tayshaba was born.

Maiada talks about her mission: ‘I'm fascinated by the beauty of originality. My dream is to take the olfactory world where it has never been before. I come from a family of freedom fighters who have left their mark on my DNA and the pages of history. So I love exploring the infinite possibilities of what can be, and what could be. I want to defy convention and unleash creativity, let it permeate the unknown and make the unknown known to everyone. The beauty of art is the art of beauty.’
