Biography of Perfumer Sofia Bardelli

This Italian fragrance designer, as discreet as she is talented, has succeeded in imposing her unique olfactory signature in a world where excellence is the norm. Find out more about her and some of her olfactory creations below.

Born in Florence, Sofia Bardelli grew up surrounded by the intoxicating scents of Tuscan gardens. This early immersion in a world of scents forged her olfactory sensibility from an early age. "The perfumes of my childhood are my first source of inspiration", she confides in a rare interview with Vogue Italia magazine.

Sofia Bardelli graduated in pharmacy from the University of Pavia and then trained at the prestigious ISIPCA school in Versailles. Her talent for blending the noblest essences and creating original accords earned her rapid recognition in the rare and elitist profession of 'noses'.

During her training at the Institut de Parfumerie in Grasse, she had to memorise each raw material and face stressful situations to refine her nose. The lily of the valley accord, which she did not initially appreciate, became a stimulating challenge. Today, she masters it with elegance.

Immediately after graduating, she was recruited by a major French company in the sector. In 2019, she returned to Italy to work as a perfumer for a perfume creation company, where she composed fragrances for international and Italian perfume brands.

Alongside her work as a freelance perfumer, she created the niche perfume brand In Astra with her sister, for which she composes all the fragrances.

In her creative laboratory, she juggles formulation, evaluation and fragrance testing. Her creative process is a subtle blend of storytelling and technical know-how. When she receives a brief, she immerses herself in the story to formulate two distinct, often contrasting fragrances. Her signature? Boldness and sustainability.

Sofia Bardelli is also renowned for her commitment to more sustainable perfumery. She was one of the first to include organically grown ingredients in her top-of-the-range formulas, paving the way for a new era of eco-responsible luxury perfumery.

Sofia Bardelli remains a discreet figure in the world of perfumery. She prefers to let her creations speak for themselves, regarding each new fragrance as a work of art in its own right. "A perfume is a story that you carry with you", she likes to say.
